Stories from ZES Patients

Zollinger Ellison Syndrom Foundation Stories from ZES Patients

Meet Mindi Holden from Oklahoma.

I am 32 years old and a mother of 5 children! Approximately 3 years ago, I started vomiting daily, lost 30 lbs., and was severely sick at 100 lbs. before the doctor would really listen to me. I've been on Prilosec, Zantac, Phenergan, Zofran, and Gaviscon. My doctor ordered multiple tests and a scope. All tests were normal. I had a scope done in Stillwater, OK. I woke up mid procedure and they said I was combative and stopped it. The doctor said my gallbladder was enlarged but wasn't the reason I was getting sick. Surgery to remove my gallbladder was done. I did gain back 5 lbs. but the symptoms did not go away. That's when my primary care doctor discovered I had ZES. I see my doctor monthly and I'm currently down to 125 lbs. and he is concerned with my weight loss. I'll be having another scope, just not sure when, as the closest place is 2 hours away. I'm basically living off Gaviscon and Phenergan to the point that I'm scared to even eat anything because I'm going to be curled up barfing my guts out. Just a little about my life with ZES and I struggle daily just getting up to go to work. Praying for earlier diagnosis and better outcomes.
